My Paycom Journey as a Client Support Specialist

Abraham Mendieta | September 18, 2023

Hailing from the Little League World Series hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, client support specialist Rachel came to Paycom with an interesting background. She started a successful business making dresses for bridal parties before becoming a department manager for a multinational e-commerce company.

Before Paycom appeared on Rachel’s radar, a previous supervisor began her own Paycom journey and encouraged her to apply.

Rachel took her advice, and after applying, she accepted a client support specialist position within our product services department (PSD) in 2022.

“She knows I like a challenging job and thought I’d be a good fit for PSD,” Rachel said. “I’m so thankful that she referred me!”

When Rachel’s not at work, she’s pursuing degrees in both business administration and biblical studies at Lancaster Bible College.

We caught up with Rachel to talk about career growth and her Paycom journey.

What do you do in your role?

My day is spent communicating with clients. They reach out to me with issues or questions, and I provide them with a resolution. I’ve dedicated the last year to teaching my clients how the system works and how to troubleshoot on their own.

Having confidence in being able to navigate the system helps our clients just as much as it does us. Sometimes I act on behalf of my clients to reach out to other departments. Ultimately, the goal is to provide an appropriate and timely resolution. My job as a Paycom Specialist is to make sure that happens.

What’s your favorite part about being in PSD?

I love being able to coach new hires. Being able to share what I’ve learned with new specialists, teaching them how to troubleshoot, building relationships with other departments and speaking with confidence is so rewarding.

I also love how much opportunity for growth there is within the department. This is the first place I’ve worked where leaders genuinely encourage growth.

What is your favorite #PaycomPerk?

Definitely the gym. When I first started, I always used my lunch hour to work out. It really helped me get through that first year-end.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

This might sound a little odd, but I’d have to say the top floor of the parking garage. The view is pretty fantastic, and it’s always so quiet.

What advice do you have for aspiring employees?

Find your person. Having that one person to help get you through the initial learning curve makes all the difference. We all need that person who can encourage us on the tough days.

If I were to choose a second thing, I would say to really work on building relationships with other departments.

The one thing that every Paycom journey has in common is that they’re all unique! It’s important to find a workplace that supports your personal development and career growth, and Paycom is just that kind of place!
